About the artists
Individually, cellist David Finckel, pianist Wu Han and violinist Philip Setzer are acclaimed artists. Husband and wife, Finckel and Wu Han head the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, while Setzer and Finckel have enjoyed an artistic partnership for more than 30 years as part of the Emerson String Quartet. As a trio, these artists make an extraordinary ensemble committed to exploring the ravishing repertoire of the piano trio literature.

About the program
“This trio program, with a cello sonata as introduction, is one of the richest and most varied experiences to be found in classical music. The voice of the cello, in a masculine and operatic style, opens the concert with a fanfare of melody and harmony that foreshadows Strauss's beloved orchestral tone poems such as Don Juan. Dvorák’s piano trios that follow are not only his greatest, but among the all-time favorites in the piano trio literature, each a glowing testament to his homeland, each filled with exuberance, pathos, and the most personal and intimate thoughts. This is a program likely not to be heard anywhere else, and performed by musicians who have made the passionate rendering of these masterpieces their lives' work.” David Finckel
